Abortion pill (medication abortion) is offered up to 9 weeks and 6 days after the start of your last menstrual period.

If your last period was more than 9 weeks and 6 days ago, read about our in-clinic abortion services below.

Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.

Plan to be at the health center for 2-3 hour(s) for your entire abortion pill visit (medication abortion).

You will need to follow up within 1-2 weeks to make sure your abortion is complete and that you are well. In the unlikely event that you are still pregnant, you may need another dose of medication or to have an in-clinic abortion to end the pregnancy.

After your abortion pill visit, you will need access to a telephone, transportation, and backup medical care available to you once you are home.

In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.

Laws and Regulations

RI St. 23-4.7-6

An abortion shall not be performed upon an unmarried or unemancipated minor unless the consent of both the pregnant woman and at least one of her parents is obtained.

The pregnant minor’s parents shall consider only their child’s best interests.

If both parents are unavailable to the physician within a reasonable time and in a reasonable manner, consent of the guardian is sufficient.

If neither of her parents nor her guardian agree to consent to the performance of an abortion, or if she elects not to seek the consent of either of her parents/guardian, a judge of the family court shall authorize a physician to perform the abortion if the judge determines that the pregnant minor is mature and capable of giving informed consent to the proposed abortion.

If the judge determines that the pregnant woman is not mature, but that the performance of an abortion would be in her best interests, the judge shall authorize the abortion.

Proceedings in the family court must be confidential. The minor will meet with a counselor to complete paperwork and discuss what will happen in court.

When the paperwork is submitted to the court, a court date will be set.

The counselor will go to court with the minor and meet with the guardian appointed by the court.

The guardian will go over questions the judge will want answered.

After court, the minor will meet with the counselor to make an appointment and go over what happens during the procedure.

If you are a minor considering an abortion, please read about parental consent and notification laws that might apply in your state.
